Menstrual Hygiene

Children at Risk National Collaboration of Christian Agencies in Uganda (CaRNaC Uganda) is envisioned as a leading national network promoting collaboration among Christian child-focused agencies to ensure the holistic well-being of children.

CaRNaC Uganda secured funding from LINSI Foundation to implement a four-year project whose major goal is to contribute to the reduction of Child abuse and Child exploitation in Uganda, this is being implemented in Busia (Buyanga and Masaba sub counties) and Bugiri (Buluguyi and Buwuni Town Council).

The project aims to protect children from all forms of abuse and exploitation, equip parents with skills to nurture and protect children, and support to build child friendly schools, churches and communities.

Rationale for the training of senior men and senior women teachers:
Menstrual Hygiene management is a critical aspect of promoting the health, wellbeing and education of girls and women worldwide, Menstruation is natural and normal part of life, yet it remains significant challenge for many girls and women particularly in low-income communities which has contributed to school dropouts and absenteeism among school girls.

One of the critical factors that undermines menstrual hygiene management is the limited knowledge and support from men and boys, which appear to be informed by stigma, lack of knowledge, and social norms embedded in gender relations and this has contributed to poor school performance, absenteeism and dropouts among girls of school going age.

To address this CaRNaC Uganda in partnership with LINZI foundation trained 46 (23 females and 23 males)senior men and senior women teachers from Masaba and Buyanga Sub counties, this was  aimed at enhancing teachers’ capacity in addressing MHM related issues in schools, create a healthier and friendly school environment that boost and promote good menstrual hygiene practices in schools
